About AccidentCompass
AccidentCompass exists because the hours after an accident are the worst possible moment to learn how insurance claims work — and that's exactly when insurers make their lowest offers. We publish free, plain-English (and plain-Spanish) guides, calculators, and state-by-state legal references so accident victims can make informed decisions.
What we are — and what we're not
We are an independent publisher. We are not a law firm and we do not provide legal advice. When you request a free case review, we connect you with an independent, licensed attorney in your state; that connection may constitute attorney advertising. We may receive compensation from participating law firms, which never influences the content of our guides.
How we keep content accurate
Every legal guide cites the controlling statute or regulation by number, links to the primary source (state codes, federal regulations, official crash databases), and shows its publication and update dates. Crash statistics come from official sources — TxDOT, state highway safety offices, NHTSA, IIHS, the Insurance Information Institute — and are always dated, because a 2015 study should never be dressed up as current news. We are actively incorporating attorney review of our guides: articles that have been reviewed by a licensed attorney say so in their byline, with the reviewer's name and bar number. Where a byline shows no reviewer, that review has not yet happened — we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend otherwise. Read our editorial policy for the full process, including how we correct errors.
How this site is funded
Two ways, both disclosed: participating law firms may compensate us when we connect them with people who request a case review, and some informational guides display advertising. Neither changes what a guide says — our settlement guides tell you when you don't need a lawyer, and our state pages cite the statutes that cut against dramatic marketing claims, because the only asset this site has is being straight with you.
